Electronic Records
April 10th, 2009I thought you might like to know about an amendment I worked out. This amendment allows for the use of electonic records in legal proceedings–a great way to save our precious public funds! Check out the press release by clicking the link below!
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A House committee this week approved legislation proposed by state Rep. that would specifically allow municipalities to use electronic records as evidence in legal proceedings. Current law is ambiguous as to whether the practice is permitted. Currently only printed records are used as evidence at a great potential cost to rural municipalities.
Right now our small towns must maintain current copies of all statutes and ordinances in paper form,” said McClanahan. “My bill helps eliminate costs and inefficiencies that cities are faced with when these laws change.” The House Local Government Committee added McClanahan’s legislation as an amendment to HB 881, an omnibus local government bill. She originally filed it as stand-alone legislation, HB 854, after constituents brought the problem to her attention. The committee approved HB 881, sponsored by State Rep. Jason Brown, R- Platte City, paving the way for debate by the full House of Representatives.
It is particularly satisfying for me to implement legislation that constituents ask for,” McClanahan said. “Helping our municipalities bring themselves in to the 21st century is something I am proud to do. If we can save money and resources, too, that is even better.”
